2nd Saturdays - Free Family ArtArts & CraftsJoin us every Second Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm at the MacRostie Art Center for free family orientated art activities with a new theme each month! 4-6 Grade Cross Country TeamFitness & RecreationJoin the 6th grade girls and boys cross country running club and learn about the sport of distance running. Athletes will train to run races between 1-2 miles in length. This will be awesome training for the 6th grade 5K! Practices: Monday, Wednesday, Friday after school until 430PMPractices will include warm up, skill of the day, daily run, stretch and strength, and game time. There will be at least 3 cross country meets: Grand Rapids, Hibbing and Rock Ridge.Race distance: 1 MileWhat to bring to practice: Running shoes, weather appropriate running attire. 6th Grade Girls TennisFitness & RecreationJoin the 6th grade girls tennis team and have lots of fun learning the lifelong sport of tennis. 6th grade athletes will compete in approximately 3 home matches against other middle school teams. This is a great program to introduce you to GRG Lightning Tennis! Players will need to bring a water bottle, tennis shoes and a tennis racket. Athletes must be registered with Community Education to participate. When: STARTING Tuesday Sept 1st Dates: Sept 1st - Sept. 24th (practice on school days only) No tennis on 9/4, 9/4 Practice Time: 3:30pm Practice Location: Grand Rapids Middle School Tennis Courts (RJEMS)A meet schedule will be available once registration has closed. Most 6th grade meets will take place at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Coleraine. Parents will need to provide transportation for their 6th grade player to the matches located at Eagle Ridge. Uniform: You will need to provide your player with black shorts and a black tank/T-shirt to wear for meets. Archery Clinic for BeginnersFitness & RecreationCurious about the sport of archery? This intro class is designed for those interested in exploring the sport/art of archery. You will be taught archery basics including range safety, discipline, proper techniques and form. All equipment and gear are provided. This class is available to shooters in grades 4th- 12th grade that have never shot before in the after school program. Class runs 6 nights, 1 hour each night. No equipment is needed, except an optional arm guard. Please do not bring your own bow/arrows unless approved by the Coach as only certain equipment may be used. Archers that enjoy the program and want to continue will have the opportunity to join the team by signing up for the Greenway Raiders Archery in the Schools class. Itasca County Homeschool students are welcome. If you join the team, you will be discounted the $10 beginner fee. Grand Rapids Thunderhawks ArcheryFitness & RecreationAbout The Program The Thunderhawks Archery Program is open to ISD 318 students in grades 6-12 who want to learn the fundamentals of archery in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Under the guidance of National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Certified Coaches, archers will develop proper shooting techniques, learn range safety, and build confidence while improving their skills. Throughout the season, archers will compete in Bullseye tournaments, with the option to also participate in 3D tournaments. Registration Bullseye registration fee includes all bullseye tournament entry fees, team jersey and equipment use. *Students can choose to pay for individual 3D tournaments throughout the season. Bullseye & 3D registration fee includes all bullseye and 3D tournament entry fees, team jersey and equipment use Scholarships Available Scholarships are available through the Angel Archer Fund. Awards may be full or partial and are based on available funding. To be considered, families must submit a scholarship application, which must be approved before funds are awarded.
