In this two-part class, you’ll learn the basics of handspinning using both a drop spindle and a spinning wheel. In the first group class on October 10, students will explore fiber preparation, spinning, and plying with drop spindles. After two weeks of at-home practice, each student will attend a personalized one-on-one lesson to review their practice yarns and learn spinning wheel techniques. Crazy About CornmealCulinary ArtsFrom seed to supper, learn how corn becomes cornmeal! Casey and Shara of Wild Edges Farm will cover growing, harvesting, processing and storing flint corn at home. Together, the class will shell and grind some of this year’s harvest into fresh cornmeal, then use it to cook and sample two easy and versatile recipes: cast-iron cornbread and cheesy polenta.
